6 Tips to Help You Find the Perfect Apparel for New Moms

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Acceptance and reinvention are the two words that will help you feel good about your body after giving birth.

By accepting the changes in your body that come with being a mom and loving any new lumps, bumps, or curves, you're choosing to live in the present.

Having a baby changes more than just your body shape. It also changes you as a person and significantly affects your way of life.

So, now is a great time to change your style and have fun with a new Mummy Style.

But here are some tips that will help you find the proper Apparel for new moms.

Become familiar with your new body

Think of your new body as a new place to live. You wouldn't arrange it the same way you did your old home, so why should your body be any different after giving birth?

Get naked in front of the mirror and learn what your new body looks like. When you know how your body has changed, you can start to dress in a way that shows it off.

Most of the time, the Mum-tum is the first place on your body to show that a baby used to live there, and it can take a while to go away. Welcome it like a new friend and start working with it instead of against it.

Start from the beginning

Set up the basics of your outfit. For many, they wear jeans, casual pants, basic tops daily, and maybe one or two great day dresses. Think about what your living needs are from your clothes. Then spend money on those items and make sure they fit you perfectly.

Ultimately, you are making your capsule wardrobe out of everyday essentials that will be the foundation for adding trend items later.

The beauty of a typical mom uniform is that it makes getting ready every day less stressful.

Clean out your closet

When you have kids, you have less time in the morning to get ready, so that time is more valuable. If your closet is full of things you don't need, you may feel like you need something to wear when you open it. When you add that your clothes are no longer fit, you dread getting dressed daily.

Take some time for yourself and change up your closet. Try on everything and only keep what fits you now because this is a great way to see what's missing from your wardrobe and what you must work with. If your clothes don't fit the new you, you'll never feel good about yourself.

Invest in your underwear

Getting the right underwear can do a lot to show off your new shape and make your clothes look their best.

Get bras that fit well because your breasts will change over time, especially if you are nursing. With all the matched sets on the high street right now, big pants don't have to be frumpy.

Give yourself a little love.

Imagine if that love returned to you and made you realize how amazing you are. Someone once said that the best relationship is the one we have with ourselves.

Start your little fling today, and remember that to your children, you're beautiful just the way you are.

Treat yourself

Your hair, nails, and face are all things that can make you feel better about yourself right away, and we wear them every day. Getting a new look can do wonders for your confidence, especially if you're going back to work or have an important event coming up.

Having your nails done also provides something nice to look at while sterilizing, feeding, changing, packing, or playing.

The list of motherhood responsibilities is infinite. Or, something as simple as planning a bath with a face mask, then putting on new pajamas and sleeping on clean sheets can help you feel better.

What size will you be after you have a baby?

The size of the outfit is very different for each person. You may not be the size you were before you got pregnant, and that's okay.

As a general rule, you should buy the size you were right before you gave birth. If it fits you when you are pregnant, it will also provide you after the baby is born.

Things to think about for a mom's going-home apparel after giving birth

There are a few things you should think about when planning your going-home outfit:

  • The weather (Are you giving birth in the fall, spring, winter, or summer?

  • Size (don't think you'll be back to the weight you were before you got pregnant right away)

  • Comfort (you'll want something that doesn't bind you up)

  • Style (You don't have to be ready for the runway, but you should wear something you feel good in!)
